Show me yours and I'll show you mine

Hi everyone! We wrote our 5th original song titled "My Brown Lollipop" today! We're really excited about this new pop-punk composition and should be recording it for uploading onto myspace soon.

We should also be debuting it for our gig in Sentosa this coming Sunday, so stay tuned for the exact time that we're playing for the event!

The Beginning of Reality

5 guys came together to play together in a band without knowing what's in for them. 5 individuals, with different mentalities, influences and backgrounds, who simply loves playing what they know and probably not the best at it. There are probably many more who are technically so much better than them but they pressed on with the plan, with nothing but passion to spur them on to create music as a band. To their pleasant surprise, things started to work well for them. The chemistry established was unsurpassed by any others they have seen or experienced, even for some of them who have been into music for a long time. Things started to click, inspirations started to flow, music started to emerge from the veils within them. King Kong Jane was conceived.

Today marks another significant event to our lives, we were featured on the Sunday Times for having the heart to meet our passion and desires. Of course this could only happen with opportunities and opportunities can only come when people are willing to offer. King Kong Jane has been pretty blessed with great opportunities and generous friends thus far. Thank you all who have been encouraging and supporting our music all these while. Especially Jocelyn who wrote the article. Well this is and cannot be the end, this is only the start of more hard work to come, to realize the dreams we have for our passion. As for Renquan, Ruishen, Ian and Colin, I am fortunate that I found you.

NTU Hall Olympiad Opening 2007

Hey everyone!!!

Here are videos of the 4 songs we did at the grand opening of the NTU Hall Olympiad on the 23rd of January 2007... Our first live video of 2 of our very own original songs... not perfect... but no glaring mistakes as what colin have said...

The setting was pretty dark with the house lights turned off but i guess it was pretty cool with only the flickering ambience lights doing their thing and the smoke machine creating the grand and majestic effects... Well we would like to thank everyone present on that night for your kind support... especially the Joint-Hall Organizing Committee for the great event and the Hall 10 guys who were screaming their lungs out to cheer us on!!! Oh yes... last but not least... the sound crew from CAC who gave us a perfect setup during the sound check in the afternoon and also the girl in red with the short hair... your unprofessionalism brought out the camaraderie in us that night!!!

Don't Take Me... our first original song for the night...
Stranger... our second original song for the night...
Mr Brightside (The Killers)
You're All I Have (Snow Patrol)

On the whole... it was a pretty good night for all of us... firstly to find out that we got selected to play at the biggest band festival in Singapore after going thru the audition, then getting a call that we would be going for a photoshoot for an article in the Sunday Times... and lastly having a fabulous place to perform our music in front of almost 1000 people in NTU with Faaantaaastic sound!!!

Our next gig will be at the Surf 'n' Sweat on the 4th of February at Tanjong Beach Sentosa. It's an annual nationwide sports event at the beach organized by the NTU Sports Club. Do look out for their posters in town... come have fun at the beach!!! Oh yah... everyone buy at least a copy of this sunday's Sunday Times (28th January 2007) and check out the Gen-Y article inside... King Kong Jane is featured!!! If you have spare cash... buy more copies of the papers!!! Thanx Jocelyn for giving us the opportunity to be on the national newspaper!!!

No man is an island

No matter how hard we try, we can never insulate ourselves from people and events that happen around us.

Sometimes, I try to let it slide, but there are times when I let my emotions get the better of me.

Perhaps life could be simpler if we didn't depend so much on external factors to validate ourselves.

But then again, it's also the things that are beyond our control which can bring the most joy and satisfaction.

I guess it all boils down to how much you allow yourself to be affected by various circumstances - to achieve that delicate balance of being able to feel thrilled by good things that happen to you, and yet not be consumed by not-so-good things that can also happen to you.

That said, I'll remember today as the day I found out that my band successfully auditioned to perform at Baybeats 2007, and not so much as the day that I lost my temper at an unprofessional sound engineer.

All good things may come to an end, but it's really about how you constantly look out for the next good thing that comes your way.

Giants will stand

The silence was almost deafening when we stepped into the room. Lights shone upon where we supposed to stand, while the judges were shrouded in semi-darkness.

After some banter about our band name that helped to break the ice, we performed. I could feel my throat drying up as I sang, and I couldn't hear the rest of the band as well as I would have liked to. Nevertheless, we managed to finish the song without any glaring mistakes.

Feedback from a fellow band and the production crew was thankfully positive, though I think I could have been more physically expressive while singing.

The interview that followed was really fun, with us trying to be as media-savvy as possible, and even recording a blurb for ourselves.

Considering how it was our first audition as a band, I think we did ok. May good vibes translate to good news...
