We met up with Leonard on Saturday, and managed to secure quite a few recording sessions at Snakeweed for next year. Feels good to finally take concrete steps towards making the debut album!

Upcoming gigs include Far East Plaza this coming Friday (2nd November) and Vivocity (10th November), so watch this space for more upcoming details!

Don't Take Me Out

To say that we weren't nervous during our Timbre gig would be lying. However, we're thankful for the generally positive feedback we've gathered so far.

We would like to say a big thank you to each and every one of you who came all the way down to watch us perform our very first acoustic gig. Thanks to the organisers for giving us a chance to perform for Rock Your World as well, thereby helping us to break out of our comfort zone.

If you didn't manage to catch us at Timbre, here are two videos from the evening: namely an acoustic version of "Don't Take Me" (with a little bit of "UNSW") and a cover of Franz Ferdinand's "Take Me Out" (with a little bit of Paolo Nutini's "Jenny Don't Be Hasty").

Stay tuned for more videos, and if things go according to plan, we should be making our debut appearance on STOMP (Straits Times Online Mobile Print) pretty soon.

Driftwood

An organiser cancelled a gig on us yesterday, citing budget constraints when the event was scheduled to happen barely three days later.

Today, several organisations championing a single cause handed us some unexpected and unwelcome news, which may leave us with no choice but to let go of a gig that we've been really excited about for the past few months.

It sucks to often bear the consequences of poor planning when all we want to do is to get our music out there. Ignorant gig organisers who don't know what amplifiers are can be annoying, but individuals and organisations who are in postions of power to better the industry but fail to practice what they preach are something else altogether.

Recording and performing

Our second recording session at Music For Good didn't go as smoothly as I would have liked it to. While recording my vocals for "Crowded", I kept going flat on the last line of the chorus. It was really frustrating to hear myself on playback, as there was really no excuse for it, considering how my voice was in good shape that night. Noticing Vivian grimace whenever that note came on was a bummer too. Well at least I know that sustaining long notes is one of my vocal weaknesses now.

It's amazing how I let my nerves get to me when I'm all alone with a microphone in a recording studio, but have no problems with singing to huge crowds. Thankfully, recording "If It Wasn't For You" went relatively smoothly. Now that all our individual parts have been recorded, Nick will work on both songs, which should be done in a couple of weeks or so. We will be posting them up on MySpace then, so watch this space for updates!

In the meantime, here are photos of our performance at The Big Birthday Rock Show on Monday night. On the whole, it was a great gig that saw many people braving a drizzle to watch us play! Feedback for the two new songs that we debuted was also generally positive, which makes us all the more excited to perform them at Timbre later this month!

Our evolving sound

We wrote yet another new song while jamming last night. The songs that we've written after Baybeats seem more cohesive than our past efforts, which we agree is a good thing. But on the other hand, it's now difficult to imagine them being on the same album with songs like "My Brown Lollipop" and "UNSW"!

We either have to churn out a few more songs that have the epic sound we've acquired of late, or be prepared to release an eclectic album. Haha.

Anyway, we'll be hitting the Music For Good Studio this Friday and Saturday to record "Crowded" and "If It Wasn't For You". Really hope that we won't have to end up recording on Tuesday night as well.

Incidentally, both songs will appear on a compilation album to be released at the end of the year under Noise Singapore. Woohoo!
