Back home

I like performing at Home Club. It's one of the few clubs in Singapore that truly provides a platform for indie bands like us to do our thing.

On second thought, it's probably the only club in Singapore to do so.

Here are photos of our performance there last Friday, courtesy of Louann.

Do look out for the Ballyhoo CD when you're out and about, as the compilation album should already be out in stores.

Of aliens and Ballyhoo

Here's a video of us performing an acoustic version of "Go Away" at Cineleisure, which also happens to be our first video to include an alien from outer space.

I'm not sure if that's why Ruishen and Renquan look so happy at the end of the song.

But I'm certain that to promote the brand new Ballyhoo compilation album, we'll be performing in Home Club this coming Friday (25th April) at 10.30pm.

Bands like Sidd & His Self-Esteem and You And Whose Army will also be performing, and the Ballyhoo CD will be sold on that night too. So help us to spread the word and see you on Friday!

(Home Club is located at 20 Upper Circular Road, B1-01/06, The Riverwalk)

One too many times

Kevin Matthews dropped me an sms earlier, asking how recording was coming along.

I would have liked to tell him it was going smoothly, but I couldn't.

It's just disheartening that our slow progress is due to a recurring reason that we can't do anything about at all.

I have a funny slang when I speak on stage

And since we're on the topic of a few weeks ago, here's a video of us performing "Intro + Crowded" aka "Overcrowded" at Home Club a few weeks ago:

This time no umbrella

And since we're on the topic of "If It Wasn't For You", here's an acoustic version of the song that we performed at Cineleisure a few weeks ago:

Ballyhoo???

If not for Google Blog Search, I would not have known that "If It Wasn't For You" is included in an upcoming compilation album called "Ballyhoo".

Well, it would be really nice if I used Google Blog Search to find that our debut album was already completed and leaked online!

For more details on "Ballyhoo", check out the "releases" section of this website:

Oh and rumour has it that we might perform at Home Club next Friday night on the 25th of April to promote the album.

Think I better go Google to see if it's true.

Another Step of Life

It has been a period of change for us, the remaining 4 of us who are still in school are graduating soon (in 2 weeks we'll be done with school stuff), which means we have to make plans for ourselves to cope with this big change in our lives. No more jam studio for us to practise as and when we like in Hall, no more flexible hours for us to play with, no more pretty clothes for us everyday (for one of us)...

We have moved to Joo Chiat to jam and continue our quest to write music that reflects our character as a band. Thanks to SK and Stagecrew studios, we have found a second home for us to leave our equipments and jam! Well we'll certainly miss our cosy Hall jam room.

As for our personal lives... Ian the grandpa has already been working for almost half a year as a computer engineer. Colin the writer is so good with his work that he has already started working with an online recruitment company as an EDITOR of their publication! So talented is he that he skipped the role of a writer to go straight up to run the magazine! Ruishen the effects man is adding more ambiance sounds into his life by starting work with an engineering company for his internship before completing what's left of his time in NS. Renquan the pretty boy is going to look for a job that allows him to earn money while he continues to look good in photos on stage with the band. Jianping the dumb is still wondering why he was so dumb to sign on as an Air Force officer just to get them to pay for his degree in Marketing. Difficult but exciting times to come... difficult cos we now have to juggle work with music, exciting because we are going to experience new things in life, which will in turn reflect in our music!

Have you heard of the fabulous band, Peepshow? We are invited to play for their EP launch at the Arts House in May!!! I think they are our closest mates we have in the local scene and it will be a great honor for us to contribute to their launch! They mentioned us in their interview with Lime magazine recently, calling us one of the young and upcoming local bands. Young? haha i dun think so... up and coming? we certainly hope so, although we dun wanna stay in that "up and coming" category for too many more years... here's a look at their poster and handsome faces...

Come for their launch and check out their dazzling performance and fantastic songs! Unfortunately Jianping will be flying to Korea to attend a wedding so we'll be having a better drummer to replace him for this gig! Shaun from Blackstar will be playing for us!

support local bands! support local bands that are not emo-rock bands!!! Support Peepshow and King Kong Jane!

The closest we've got to an MTV

Thanks to Weetz, we've got a brand new video that's a little different from all the ones we've had so far.

Not only can you check out our performance of "Lollipop" at Home Club, you can also finally match our names to our faces!

Acoustically speaking

We tend to groan when we're told to perform acoustically. Reasons include having to spend time working out new arrangements to our songs, and having to physically reign ourselves in when performing.

But on the other hand, acoustic gigs tend to bring us positive feedback, particularly from those who would rather not listen to a full-blown rock band, and also appreciate increased audibility of our lyrics.

But I think the greatest benefit of doing the occasional acoustic gig is that it takes us out of our comfort zone. Having to put a new twist to our original compositions allows us to interpret them in a way that's entirely different from what we're used to. In the long run, I guess it does a great deal of good to us as a band.

Here's a video of us performing an acoustic version of "Stranger" at Cineleisure, arguably the original composition that we managed to change most significantly for this gig.

Watch the video all the way till the end to catch a special guest appearance!
