Almost there

We received news last week that we might get a chance to perform at a prestigious music event in Hong Kong in early June.

Apparently, we were shortlisted as one of 7 bands, out of which 3 would ultimately be chosen to go on the trip, which would be sponsored in terms of airfare and accommodation.

Pretty awesome huh?

Well, the latest update is that we didn't make it to the final 3. Which means that our biggest rock star moment ever will have to wait, but we also don't have to think of how to excuse ourselves from work anymore.

At least the organisers were really professional and sincere, unlike so many others that we've come across.

Keeping my fingers crossed that something like this will come our way again soon.

The night when "Lemonade" was born

1 down, 2 to go.

Our first gig for the Singapore Arts Festival took place at Timbre earlier. The crowd was great tonight, but the sound system could have been better. In particular, one of the guitar amps kept giving us problems.

But in any case, it was fun to finally perform a non-acoustic gig at Timbre. We thought the crowd was surprisingly appreciative of a band playing original compositions too.

A big thank you to all of you who came down to catch us, we know Tuesday isn't the best night to be out late. Thanks for the well wishes from those who didn't make it and to those of you who were watching us for the first time.

Next up? Raffles City on 8th June, where we promise to deliver a better show!

Hua Yu Cool

After our performance for NTU's Open House in April this year, we were interviewed on stage by 2 of YES 93.3FM's most popular presenters.

Here's a video of the rather amusing interview, which was conducted in Mandarin.

Jing Gang Yue Tuan Wan Sui!

A father figure of sorts

We caught up with Kevin Matthews after jamming at Four Tones today. He was warm and enlightening as always, and it felt good to know that he still appreciates our work.

If only the scene had a few more Kevin Mathews, who tirelessly documents and champions music that's been victimised by a lack of attention for far too long...

"KKJ is, in my opinion, severely underrated in the S-ROCK scene. At its core, the band is able to meld commercial and artistic concerns in their songwriting and recording process. Which means slick production values, good singing and performances. And above all that, killer hooks and an indelible groove. If It Wasn’t For You possesses all these elements. I will say it again - a band to watch out for."

Ballyhoo boo boo

If you were confused by a review of the Ballyhoo compilation CD in Friday's Life!, we're here to help!

The reviewer had meant to praise our good friends S.P.O.N.G.E. for their vocalist Rahmat and song "Astray", but made a mistake by putting down our name instead.

In other words, Colin has not changed his name to Rahmat, and "If It Wasn't For You" has not been renamed "Astray".

Hehe.

Singapore Arts Festival 2008

You may have already heard of the news from brochures and magazines, but if you haven't...

*drumroll*

We're performing for the SINGAPORE ARTS FESTIVAL!!!

That's right, following last year's Baybeats, this has got to be one of our biggest gigs yet!

We'll be performing a total of 3 gigs for the annual festival, the first of which will take place at Timbre @ The Substation on 27th May (Tuesday) at 9pm!

Watch this space for more updates, and in the meantime, visit the offical website of the Singapore Arts Festival here:

Behind the peepshow

We had a blast as guest performers for PeepShow's EP Launch at The Arts House.

The venue was way cool, and to share the same stage with the hilarious FreakyZ and the awesome PeepShow felt really good.

A big thanks to Shaun who stood in for Jianping as our drummer, those of you who came down for the launch, and of course to PeepShow for having us.

If you haven't got a copy of PeepShow's EP, do something about it!

Due to some technical difficulties, I'm afraid we didn't manage to record down any of the 4 songs that we performed, but you can click on the links below to check out photos from that day:

Opening the peepshow

One of King Kong Jane's favorite local bands is launching their debut EP this coming Saturday.

As you might remember from a previous entry, we've been invited as guest performers for the launch, so do drop by if you're free!

Jianping will be away in Korea, so we're having a guest drummer in the form of Shaun (previously from Blackstar), which means you can expect our songs to sound slightly different from our previous gigs...
