When we performed for Baybeats last year, I remember being very affected by negative feedback about us that I came across online. Although there were bouquets among the brickbats, I found it really hard to not take some of the more mean-spirited comments personally.
One year on, we're in the limelight once more, thanks to winning Power Jam. And as I expected, there are cheers and jeers all over again.
If there's one thing that I've learnt about being in a local band for the past three years, it's that you simply can't please everybody. No matter which genre of music you perform or how successful you are, there will be people out there who you can never win over, for reasons both within and out of your control.
Having said that, if you find yourself striving to please everyone, then I think you need to do some soul-searching. Because that will never happen, no matter how hard you try to make it so.
At the end of the day, it's all all about knowing what you stand for, and working towards achieving your goals, no matter what they may be. After all, the world we live in could really afford to use less talk and more action.
Speaking of world, we were invited into the virtual space of Habbo last night. After modifying our very own avatars, we were interviewed online by the good people at Habbo, and got to interact with Habbo users in the virtual lounge of Nokia's Independent Artists Club. Stay tuned for photos!
