New article: Baybeats 2012 - King Kong Jane
We recently spoke to Hanis Ahmad, one of six young scribes being mentored by established local music writer Kevin Mathews as part of the Esplanade Youths-Baybeats Budding Music Writers Mentoring Programme 2012.
Here's the article she wrote, which documents what we're cooking up for our upcoming set at Baybeats:

We're on Life!
We're proud to be on the cover of today's Life! newspaper, along with new acts who are performing for this year's Baybeats, namely The Rejeks and Seyra!
We can't get our hands on an online version of the accompanying article, but here's the portion where we're mentioned:
"Some local bands who performed at Baybeats in previous years, like indie rockers King Kong Jane, have gone on to launch full-length albums and even tour overseas."

Album reviews
The first review of our album appeared in TODAY a couple of weeks ago, courtesy of Kevin Mathews and Christopher Toh:

To our surprise, we woke up to news this morning that there's a review in today's issue of The Straits Times too. It still feels a little strange to read professional reviews of our album, but we're really thankful for all the support from local newspapers so far.
Many thanks to Kai Chai and Eddino for the following review:

Yahooooooooo!
Sometimes it feels really good to know that there are media channels out there that make the effort to feature indie bands like us.
Yahoo! Singapore's website has a great section called Music Scene, which has featured homegrown acts like Ling Kai and Shirlyn Tan.
Thanks to writer Ewen Boey, we're featured in Music Scene's latest post, which details our journey so far:

InSing.com: Up Close with King Kong Jane
Tonight's gonna be a good good night! See you at 7.30pm in the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre!
We're starting the 45min set with "If It Wasn't For You", and will also debut our new song titled "How Could You?"
In the meantime, check out this interview that Colin did with the awesome Patrick Chng, that has been uploaded to InSing.com:
King Kong Jane was formed in late 2005 when the guys were studying at NTU. Singer Colin Lim was invited by guitarist Ian Ho to sing for his hall’s jam band and he decided to ‘give it a shot’. Since then, the five of them have been playing as King Kong Jane.
Flash forward to 2010, the group is now established as one of the most exciting live acts in Singapore. They started as one of the new bands at Baybeats in 2007, and later took part and won Power98’s Powerjam band competition in 2008. Later that year, they were also accepted into Noise Singapore’s Apprenticeship Programme and were mentored by The Observatory’s Vivian Wang.
Their power-packed melodic songs, unpretentious aura and Colin’s charismatic stage presence have won them lots of admirers, me included. The band is currently in the mixing stage for their debut album with Leonard Soosay and will be hitting the Esplanade outdoor stage on Sunday in the weekend titled Rockin’ the Region: Singapore.
I caught up with front man Colin to talk about their upcoming album and more.

In today's TODAY
We're mentioned in an article titled "Singapore's got talent" by Christopher Toh of TODAY newspaper.
Said Kevin: "I've always believed that the one thing that is lacking in the Singapore music scene is not talent, but proper guidance, support and encouragement.
"TAP fits the bill by providing this to our young, talented apprentices. Young artists like King Kong Jane, Rachael Teo, Freaky Z and Nick Tan have certainly benefited from this."

Blog watch
2 prominent bloggers wrote about us recently, which was pretty cool, considering how I myself visit their websites once in a while.
One goes by the name of Cowboy Caleb, while the other is known as alvinologoy, and both are worth some of your time online.
